WINS SEA Games Week

Female journalists in Indonesia and the Philippines are working on amplifying the female voice at the SEA Games.

Women in News and Sport (WINS) are running two workshops back to back in the lead up to the SEA Games this month, with the focus on women’s sport coverage.

For those participants in Manila, it’s about highlighting the lesser known sports competing in the event – while also having the opportunity to perfect their commentating skills.

Meanwhile in Jakarta the women will be learning how to dig deeper into the issues behind sport though an investigative sports journalism course.

WINS is run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s International Development team and funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Women in News and Sport (WINS) initiative is a training and mentoring program that provides female journalists in the Pacific and Asia with the tools to carve out a career in the male-dominated world of sports media.

WINS works in three areas – providing skills training and industry knowledge (including an intensive workshop); improving multi-platform content creation (with a special focus on women’s sport); and networking with other women in media and sport. The program includes mentoring participants through sports coverage and seeks to promote women in sport from elite to community levels, and amplify women’s voices in sports coverage.
